Johnson County Divorce Records
The Johnson District Court has primary jurisdiction over divorce and annulment cases in the county. Divorce records include filings and related documents that outline the case, including the parties involved, the county of filing, the court, and the finalization date. They may also include details on child support, visitation, and the terms of the divorce.
Although basic divorce information is available for public inspection, access to full documents is restricted. The method of access depends on whether the records filed before July 1, 1951, are available through the Kansas Historical Society. Records filed after that date can be obtained from the District Court.
Notably, divorce certificates (abstracts of the court’s final decrees) are issued by the Kansas Office of Vital Statistics and contain only basic information. For the actual divorce decree, requesters must contact the District Court directly, subject to access restrictions.
